Job summary

The Software/Application Architect  plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing a robust, scalable, and high-performance SaaS platform at Slope. This position works closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and stakeholders, to ensure our application meets business requirements and industry standards. Your expertise will guide the technical direction of projects and ensure the alignment of technology and business goals. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of software architecture and its primary components, as well as the interaction between these components and other external systems. They will also be familiar with cloud adoption processes and infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop architectural solutions for software applications, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, translating them into technical specifications.
  • Lead and mentor development teams throughout the software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment.
  • Create and maintain architectural documentation, including design diagrams, technical specifications, and guidelines.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure the continuous improvement of the development process.
  • Ensure the scalability, performance, and security of applications through best practices and proactive design.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide feedback to ensure adherence to architectural standards and best practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Present architectural solutions and strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, communicating effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience & requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Software/Application Architect or similar role.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and documenting systems and processes (a) in a regulated/controlled industry (e.g., life sciences, banking, defense, etc.) and (b) supporting security and privacy frameworks (e.g., SOC2, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, CMMC, SOX, etc.).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Experience with application performance optimization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Deep knowledge of software development methodologies, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Ruby, Java, C++, Python, JavaScript) and frameworks (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Spring, .NET, Angular, React).
  • Strong understanding of databases (SQL and NoSQL) and data modeling/analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and guide teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • Training in DevOps, system development, and/or programming
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect)
